An eye for an eye is philosophy for the birds. Or is it for dads?

I recently realized, while walking the sidewalks at lunchtime, that being a white man in the wrong neighborhood can get you swooped on real quick.

Timing is everything.

If you plan on walking around at 4am in the urban jungle of Miami, Florida. Do yourself a favor and wear a hat. Especially, if it’s nearing summer. If you get swooped you’ll be grateful when the bird takes off with your gear instead of your ear.

I was working a nightshift. My lunchbreak is premium time to go out and get some steps in. When I first got swooped, I thought maybe I was having a religious experience. Maybe my old Owl friend from a past life was trying to connect.

After the third night getting swooped, on the same walk at the same time, I Googled it. Turns out, the burrowing owls are nesting and likely defending their territory.

Well, that didn’t deter me from my nightly escapade. Besides, it was interesting.

Once you’re over forty, it’s not everyday some bird comes chasing after ya just for walking by…
